Research at the RGZM
Laboratories
It is the restoration and subsequent scientific examination of an archaeological object that incorporates a historical source into the broader framework of the research. For this reason, the conservation workshops are of utmost importance for our research institute. With more than 30 employees working in the field of restoration/conservation, documentation and natural scientific research, the workshops of the RGZM belong to the largest facilities of their kind worldwide and are internationally-renowned. The close interdisciplinary collaberation between restorers, natural scientists and archaeologists at the RGZM is a strongly-maintained tradition and can not only be seen through the close cooperation within the institute, but also in the existing cooperation with the faculty of archaeology and geosciences of the University of Mainz and the Institute for Space-Oriented Information and Measurement Technology of the Mainz College for Applied Sciences.
