Especially in times when there were no written sources, knowledge is stored in objects. The Römisch-Germanisches Zentralmuseum (RGZM) in Mainz tries to regain this knowledge from the archaeological artifacts. This is done in close cooperation between archaeologists, conservators and scientists.
On the occasion of the European Cultural Heritage Year 2018 "Sharing Heritage", we have compiled a small, cinematic look behind the scenes of our conservation department. The film was financed by the Leibniz Aktionsplan Forschungsmuseen (Leibniz Association).
This film by Reiner Krausz and Vita Spieß, sehstern Filmproduktion, shows how the conservators of the Leibniz Research Institute for Archaeology work.
